Upgrade, Repair and Maintenance

Astbury Water Technology's certified water and wastewater operators offer an extensive depth of experience and knowledge. Most of our certified operators have backgrounds and degrees in Chemistry or Environmental Studies. In addition to experience, our operators have achieved the highest levels of Indiana wastewater and drinking water certifications. No treatment facility is too large and complex or too small for our operations and maintenance team –

“Astbury has always kept on top of the day to day operations of our facilities and is very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to the construction of our facilities and interfacing with IDEM regulators. With Astbury overseeing our facilities I don't need to worry about our drinking water and waste water systems.”

–Shannon Eberly
Regional Vice President for Sun Communities, Inc.

Astbury can provide a customized service program to fit the needs of each individual client. From the plant that requires one visit per month, to the plant that requires service seven days per week, Astbury is effective and cost effective.

We have operated and maintained wastewater facilities for over 20 years involving a wide variety of plant sizes and treatment processes. Our experience, efficiency, and economies of scale allow for us to save our customers on bio solids, management, electricity, and chemical costs. In total, we operate wastewater facilities ranging from 6,000 gallons per day to over 5 million gallons per day. We have operation, maintenance, and emergency capabilities for all of our water and wastewater facilities every day and hour of the year. Additionally, our statewide presence allows us to provide not only the best service and support, but also economical prices.

In total, Astbury operates over 30 wastewater plants with a combined capacity of well over 9.5 million gallons per day. Our contract terms range from monthly agreements to multi-year contracts. We are happy to accommodate any length of contract.

Plant Reconditioning, Upgrades & Retrofitting

Over many years of providing operational services, Astbury has developed the capability to improve under-performing and non-compliant plants by using a practical, cost-effective approach. Some of these facilities were under agreed orders, while others were under regulatory scrutiny due to routine violations of permit limits. We take great pride in our ability to evaluate the existing infrastructure and make it work better without spending large sums of money. This capability has helped give Astbury an excellent reputation and working relationship with IDEM and other State agencies.

Astbury offers a common sense approach to plant upgrades for cost-sensitive customers. We have no vested interest in hiring expensive engineering firms and contractors who may tend to ignore economical options in favor of “flashy” and expensive, but unnecessary, technology. The company also has a large inventory of used tanks, blowers, pumps, control panels, flow meters, and parts. This inventory allows us to provide sensible maintenance options for all customers.

Wastewater Plant Asset Management

  • Ongoing maintenance, management and full operation of the plant
  • Customer retains ownership and control of plant assets; Astbury performs daily operation, management and maintenance duties
  • Astbury purchases plant assets and provides wastewater treatment services to facility owner or retail customers

Beyond traditional operational and maintenance services, Astbury has developed the Astbury Plant Asset Management Model (APAMM). With this service, Astbury assumes complete responsibility for operating, maintaining, and replacing plant assets for a specified contract term. This comprehensive service makes Astbury completely responsible for plant operations, enabling customers to focus entirely on their primary business without worrying about environmental compliance.

The asset management model is a simple arrangement that gives the customer complete ownership and control of the plant assets while not having the responsibility of daily operations and maintenance. There is no “typical” asset management arrangement, but most arrangements have Astbury contracting with the owner of a wastewater plant for a number of years. The longer that the customer can commit; the more economical the arrangement is for both parties. After a contract is agreed upon, Astbury will receive set monthly payments, and in exchange, be completely responsible for daily plant operations, including IDEM reports and fines. In addition to daily operations, Astbury will be financially responsible for normal wear items and assets, including:

  • blowers
  • pumps
  • grinders
  • electrical equipment
  • controls
  • pipes
  • lift stations
  • flow meters
  • valves
  • UV systems
  • diffusers

Before any arrangement can begin, Astbury will inspect the plant and related assets. Some plants cannot be operated under the asset management model, but most plants in decent condition are applicable.

Non-wear items are usually exempted from the agreement, such as: in-ground tanks and collection systems. Also, Astbury will not be responsible for past plant violations and liabilities, as Astbury will only assume responsibility for liabilities resulting during Astbury operation of the facility.

Public/Private Partnerships

  • Astbury and municipality enter partnership to provide cost effective and professional management of water utility assets.

Flexibility is the hallmark of any Astbury public / private partnership. Not only do we have extensive experience operating all sizes of wastewater plants, but we also have flexibility with our level of involvement, contract lengths, and everything in between. Some of our largest partnerships are done on a month-to-month basis, with either party able to cancel the agreement with only 30-days notice.

We want you to be satisfied with our service and the value you receive – but if you are not, you don't have to be tied-down to a long contract. We want you to realize not only savings, but to have a partnership that can help you plan for the long term while leading you through the many challenges associated with plant operation.

Our flexibility extends deeper than just contractual agreements. We work with you to ensure a smooth transition. Part of ensuring a smooth transition involves being flexible with your employees. We can either work with your existing employees, or can hire them and utilize them the most efficiently – not only in your partnership, but also in the over thirty wastewater plants that we operate in the State of Indiana. Our experience, efficiency, and economies of scale also allow for us to save our customers on bio-solids, management, electricity, and chemical costs. The same goes for analytical work generated by your facility. The economies of scale offered by our in-house laboratory may save significant amounts of money.
